What's this all about :-

Whatsapp new updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy :

" Share my WhatsApp account information with Facebook to improve my Facebook ads and products experiences. Your chats and phone number will not be shared onto Facebook regardless of this setting. "

It basically comes down to a change in terms and conditions that will enable sharing some WhatsApp info, like online status and your phone number with Facebook. According to official statements, this will help Facebook improve its friends suggestions and ad accuracy, among other things and will not affect the encryption and protection of WhatsApp conversations.
But it's still undeniable that the new privacy policy is a little confusing at best and likely intentionally so.

And frankly what this actually means is that Facebook won't be sharing you chats and phone number publicly, although it will still keep record of the latter internally. And as far as the chats par goes, well, we just have to take their word for it. But you knew inside what these phrases means.

For starters, back when WhatsApp joined the Facebook empire (Facebook family of companies) in February 2014, a promise was made that this wouldn't affect its privacy policy and that it would not share or sell "personally identifiable information". But they changed.

By the way WhatsApp can't change policy too fast due to Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) & FTC(Federal Trade Commission) US. According to them a company must obtain opt-in consent before asking a user to agree to new terms and conditions. Which offer users a 30 day opt-out option. That's why we got 30 days.

As WhatsApp official website says -

WhatsApp is part of the Facebook family of companies, and sharing some information allows us to coordinate more and improve experiences across our services and those of Facebook and the Facebook family. For example: (source)

* We will be able to more accurately count unique users.
* We can better fight spam and abuse.
*  If you are a Facebook user, you might see better friend suggestions and more relevant ads on      Facebook.
